Everything leaving Netflix in July 2024

There’s good news for Netflix subscribers in July. Compared to many of the other months of the year, Netflix isn’t losing a lot of popular titles. But that’s not to say that some great movies aren’t going out the door when July comes to an end. Classics like American Graffiti, Smokey and the Bandit, and Fatal Attraction are all pulling away. The Matrix trilogy is also setting up shop on another streamer, but you can almost set your clock by how quickly those films will make the streaming rounds.

While not all of the departing movies are fan-favorites, it’s down to you to scan the list of impending Netflix departures and making your own viewing plans. It can easy to forget to do that, so write it down if  you have to. In the meantime, check out our roundup of everything leaving Netflix in July 2024. As always, our picks for the month are in bold.

Our top pick for July

Shrek (2001)

Shrek
Shrek
  • Metacritic: 84%

  • IMDb: 7.9/10

  • Rated: PG

  • Duration: 90m

  • Genre: Animation, Comedy, Fantasy, Adventure, Family

  • Stars: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz

  • Directed by: Andrew Adamson, Vicky Jenson

Since its return to Netflix, Shrek has had a constant presence in the top 10 most popular movies list. That’s a testament to the staying power of this animated film from 2001 that put DreamWorks Animation on the map. Shrek pulled off that trick by unleashing a constant flow of pop culture references, Smash Mouth’s All-Star, and some of the most enduring animated characters of the 21st century.

Mike Myers lends his voice to Shrek, an ornery ogre who just wants to be left alone in his swamp. That’s why Shrek is so put out when fantasy creatures are forced into his land by Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). That includes Shrek’s self-declared new best friend, Donkey (Eddie Murphy). The only way to get rid of these pests is if Shrek undertakes a quest to rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from a dragon so she can marry Farquaad. But once Shrek and Fiona finally meet, he may start having some second thoughts about his arrangement with Farquaad.
