Family of Marcel Berthiaume, 84, continues search across Northumberland County

Marcel Berthiaume, an elderly man familiar with the woods in New Brunswick's Northumberland County, left his home — where he lives alone — to go for a drive the morning of May 21.

The 84-year-old's family, the Department of Natural Resources and the RCMP continued their search for him Wednesday night.

"The RCMP helicopter was in the air both yesterday and today searching the area," said Blackville RCMP Cpl. Chuck Plaxton.

"The problem is he goes different places and it's difficult to pin down exactly where he may have gone."

Berthiaume's family is concerned for his well-being, given his age.

RCMP received a tip Tuesday that Berthiaume was seen in the Big Bald Mountain area the afternoon of May 21. Wednesday's search concentrated on the region.

"We're hoping someone will come across his vehicle, which is a dark blue 2008 Jeep Liberty," said Plaxton.

Berthiaume's family members have been appealing to friends and contacts on social media across northern New Brunswick to keep an eye out for their relative.
