Woman dead after being struck by vehicle at Dupont and Christie

A female pedestrian is dead after she was struck by a vehicle in Toronto's west end on Saturday afternoon, Toronto police say.

According to Sgt. Melissa Kulik, the crash happened at the intersection of Dupont and Christie streets.

Police received several calls about the collision, starting at about 4:20 p.m. The first caller said a vehicle had crashed into a building.

"For unknown reasons, a vehicle went off the road and mounted the sidewalk, where there were pedestrians standing," Kulik told reporters at the scene.

When police arrived on the scene, they found that the woman had been hit by a vehicle.

Toronto paramedics took the woman in life-threatening condition to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to hospital.

The intersection at Dupont and Christie was closed as officers investigated the fatal collision.

Kulik said officers conducted a canvas in the area on Saturday, searching for any local homes or businesses that may have video that would help police piece together the circumstances leading up to the crash.

Investigators are also appealing for eyewitnesses to come forward. Anyone with dashboard camera footage is urged to call police.

"It will greatly assist in our investigation," Kulik said.
