Final Fort Worth firefighter injured in rollover crash out of hospital, thanks community

The fourth Fort Worth firefighter injured in a rollover crash of a fire engine while responding to a call in early February was released from the hospital, the Fort Worth Fire Department said in a social media post Friday.

Capt. Daniel Terrell, 46, has been admitted to a rehab center where he will spend the next couple of weeks, according to the post.

Fire officials said Terrell was in high spirits even though he has a long recovery ahead of him.

In a statement released on social media, the Terrell family thanked the John Peter Smith Hospital staff for their care and said they’d received an overwhelming amount of love and support from the Fort Worth community.

“It is surreal that so much joy and love could blossom from such a tragic time,” the family said in the statement. “This walk of faith was challenging, but it strengthened our trust in God’s love.”

Terrell, who was in the front passenger seat when the fire truck rolled, sustained life-threatening injuries and spent the first two days after the Feb. 6 crash in the Intensive Care Unit at JPS.

Terrell has been with the Fort Worth Fire Department for 18 years.

Engineer Matthew Schneider and Firefighter Devin Kuhn were treated at local hospitals and released the day of the accident. Firefighter Clint Robinson underwent surgery Feb. 7 and was released from the hospital the next day. Robinson faces a rehabilitation time of up to six months, fire officials said.
