Firefighters rescue cat from Winnipeg house fire

Winnipeg firefighters rescued a cat from a house fire in the city's West Broadway area on Tuesday morning.

Crews were called to 153 Furby St. shortly after 11 a.m. Smoke could be seen coming out of the 2½-storey wood frame house.

A cat was taken out of the home at one point. Firefighters at the scene told CBC News they were giving the cat oxygen in an effort to revive it.

The cat is now in the care of the Animal Services Agency, a City of Winnipeg spokesperson told CBC News.

No other injuries were reported.

The blaze was confined to the first floor of the home, with smoke and water damage throughout.

No damage estimate was given. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
