Firefighter injured responding to Norwood Hotel dryer fire

A firefighter was taken to hospital after responding to a fire at the Norwood Hotel on Sunday morning.

Crews were called out to the hotel located on the 100 block of Marion St. around 11 a.m.

The hotel was evacuated and firefighters found smoke coming from the laundry room. The fire in a commercial dryer was quickly put out.

A firefighter, however, was injured while stripping hose off the truck, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said. A metal coupling that connects the hosing hit the side of the firefighter's head, causing a wound.

The firefighter was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Two hotel employees were also checked for smoke inhalation at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and a damage estimate is not known, but the fire was contained to the laundry area.
