Prime Video has released a first look at Nicole Kidman in Lulu Wang's upcoming limited series Expats.

An adaptation of the best-selling novel The Expatriates by Janice Y K Lee about a group of wealthy expats in Hong Kong, the six-episode show marks The Farewell director's television debut.

Set in 2014 Hong Kong, the series follows Margaret (Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo), three American women whose lives cross paths in the wake of Margaret's youngest son's disappearance.

Also starring Brian Tee as Margaret's husband Clarke and Jack Huston as Hilary's husband David, Expats is set to explore privilege when the lines between victimhood and culpability become blurry.

A first batch of images for the show have dropped ahead of its debut at Toronto International Film Festival, where the feature-length penultimate episode is scheduled to have its world premiere. Titled 'Central,' the episode closes in at the 96-minute mark.

One of the images sees Kidman's Margaret and her husband riding in the back of a cab, with her looking pensively out of the window and cuddling Clarke. Kidman also features in another shot where her character is taking a bath while looking at her phone.

Other images shed light on the internal turmoil of Hilary, Margaret's neighbour whose marriage has hit a stale patch after she discovers she can't bear a child. Meanwhile, Mercy takes the blame when Margaret's son vanishes, while also getting cosy with Hilary's husband David in one of the snaps.

Wang also serves as writer and executive producer for Expats, expected to become available to stream on Prime Video in early 2024.
