Five-star basketball recruit to officially visit Kentucky, which he calls ‘a big stage’

The recruitment of a five-star power forward in the class of 2025 is beginning to heat up, and the Kentucky men’s basketball program is set to play a big part in it.

On Thursday morning, five-star class of 2025 power forward Caleb Wilson told the Herald-Leader he will soon be taking an official visit to Kentucky.

Wilson said he has upcoming visits planned to Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee. Wilson said he believes the Kentucky visit will be an official visit, with the others being unofficial visits.

“The SEC is a physical conference, and I feel like that’s something that’s going to benefit me on my path to the next level, which is hopefully the NBA,” Wilson told the Herald-Leader.

Wilson didn’t specify the dates for these upcoming recruiting visits.

Wilson, who is from Atlanta and plays prep basketball at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in the same city, is ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 5 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.

A 6-foot-9, 198-pound power forward (measurements via 247Sports), Wilson’s college basketball recruitment has quickly become a blue-blood affair.

The likes of Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina have all offered him a scholarship, along with a plethora of other schools.

When speaking to the Herald-Leader during the Under Armour Next Elite 24 showcase event in Atlanta, Wilson said that while he never had a “dream school,” he’s always been a fan of Kentucky.

“I like Rupp Arena, (it’s) a big stage,” Wilson said.

Kentucky offered Wilson a scholarship in late June following his performance at the National Basketball Players Association Top-100 camp in Orlando.

UK assistant coach Chin Coleman was Wilson’s main point of contact before head coach John Calipari extended the scholarship offer to him.

Wilson is one of eight players in the class of 2025 who already hold a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.

Wilson spent the 2023 grassroots season playing up an age level with the Georgia Stars program, and he said Brandon Ingram and Jayson Tatum are two NBA players he tries to model his game after.

Wilson is also already familiar with this season’s group of Wildcats: He’s played in the past with both Rob Dillingham and Justin Edwards.

“I love their team this year. ... I really like their team this year,” Wilson said of the 2023-24 Wildcats.

Kentucky has already secured one high-profile official visit for the fall as class of 2024 guard Boogie Fland is set to come to Lexington in September.

Now, another five-star is on his way.
