Flood Warning issued for Leamington: ERCA

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Warning for the Municipality of Leamington.

The updated advisory follows flooding along Point Pelee Drive, between Sturgeon Creek and Mersea Road C, because of strong southwest winds, high waves and record-high lake levels.

Meantime, a Flood Watch remains in place for the following areas:

  • Lake St. Clair shoreline from Windsor to Belle River

  • Lake Erie shoreline including Pelee Island

  • Detroit River shoreline

  • Lake St. Clair Shoreline

Authority caution

"The conservation advises people should take extra caution to avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind/lake events," said James Bryant, water resources engineer with ERCA.

"The combination of slippery banks, waves, waves overtopping shoreline structures, and fast moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets, and livestock should be kept away from flowing or standing water as well as shoreline areas," Bryant said.
