Former RCMP officer, 76, charged in sex assault case

RCMP have laid charges against a 76-year-old man in a sexual assault case dating back to 1976.

RCMP said a Manitoba woman came forward in 2006, alleging she had been sexually assaulted by an RCMP officer when she was between nine and 14 years old from 1976 to 1981.

Following a seven-year-long investigation, a 76-year-old man was arrested this week in Nova Scotia.

The retired officer has been charged with two counts of gross indecency and two counts of indecent assault.

He is being transported to Manitoba to face the charges.

Police have not said where in the province the alleged assaults took place.
