Freeze warning in effect for Richland, Lexington, other Midlands counties in SC

Bundle up, it’s a bit chilly out there.

A freeze warning is in effect Thursday morning for the Midlands as temperatures could reach the lower 30s or uppers 20s, the National Weather Service said.

Richland, Lexington, Chesterfield, McCormick, Newberry, Fairfield, Kershaw, Edgefield, Saluda, Lee, Aiken, Sumter, Barnwell, Calhoun, Clarendon, Bamberg, Lancaster and Orangeburg counties are under the warning until 10 a.m.

The weather service advised people to protect tender plants from the cold. Outdoor pipes should be wrapped or drained to prevent freezing and possible bursting. People should also allow them to drip. People should also drain in-ground sprinkler systems and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing, the weather service said.

Temperatures will warm up later in the day, as the high is expected to reach 57 degrees.
