Is this the future? All news reporters at California-based Channel 1 are AI-generated

All television reporters and production crews at a 24-hour news channel startup based in Southern California are AI-generated.

Jean-François Bélanger of CBC explored in a recent video what Channel 1 is promising and why some are concerned about what it could mean for the news industry.

Channel 1 news released its first demo episode in December. A full launch is expected in 2024.

The reporters in Channel 1 videos appear to be human, but are actually produced from the scan of a real person, USA Today reported. The reporters use digitally generated voices to tell the news, with little emotion, in any language, the newspaper said.

Channel 1 was founded by producer and director Scott Zabielski and tech entrepreneur Adam Mosam, promising to “give users a new more personal way to watch the news. Introducing a new personalized global news network, powered by generative AI.”
