Girl, 16, hit by car near Blessed Oscar Romero High School in serious condition

A 16-year-old girl is in hospital after she was hit by a car near Blessed Oscar Romero High School in southwest Edmonton.

Witnesses told police the girl was trying to cross 178th Street near 69th Avenue when she was hit just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say they don't know whether the girl was in a marked crosswalk.

The 55-year-old female driver of the small car was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

No charges have been laid.

Police say 178th Street between 69th and 76th avenues remains closed.
