Girls Aloud fail to sell out O2 Arena dates in London after slashing ticket prices by 60%

Girls Aloud has failed to sell out any of their three scheduled nights at the O2 Arena in London this week.

Despite slashing ticket prices by up to 60 per cent, large sections of the venue remain available, according to ticket seller AXS.

The low interest will perhaps sting all the more after the star-studded display of Taylor Swift's recent sold-out shows nearby.

The American pop-star performed in front of a 90,000-strong sold-out crowd at Wembley Stadium over the weekend where the likes of Hugh Grant, Tom Cruise and Phoebe Wallerbridge rocked out to her famous hits.

Even Prince William was seen throwing down his best dance moves alongside his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte on opening night.

But Girls Aloud has been forced to reduce ticket prices from over £100 to as low as £30 late last week, resulting in a surge of sales over the past few days.

They peformed on Tuesday and will again on Wednesday and Thursday night.

However, as of Wednesday morning, tickets for tonight’s show are still available, with prices starting at just £21.38.

Maps of the O2 Arena indicate that fans can choose almost any seat for the performances.

The tour, which kicked off in Dublin in May, includes 30 dates across cities such as Manchester, Cardiff, Nottingham, Leeds, and Birmingham. It is set to conclude in Liverpool at the end of June.

The band, who previously sold over four million albums in the UK and had multiple number one hits, are returning to the stage after being one of Britain’s biggest girl groups.

Their reunion had also been long-encouraged by nostalgic fans and calls for a tour ramped up following the death of their bandmate Sarah Harding.

Harding passed away in September 2021 at the age of 39 after being diagnosed with advanced-stage breast cancer in 2020.

Since then, the group, whose members are Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts, has raised more than £1million for cancer charities, including the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal.

Her bandmate Kimberly Walsh emphasised the importance of honouring Harding on the tour.

She stated: “One of the main aims on this tour is to do Sarah justice and give us and our fans that moment to celebrate her. I think they need it, I think we all need it.”
