Goh Ballet Academy teacher charged with sexual exploitation of student

A 49-year-old ballet teacher is in custody in Vancouver, after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenage student.

Alejandro Vargas Gomez, who taught for the Goh Ballet Academy, has been charged with one count of luring and with two counts of sexual exploitation.

Gomez, of Mexico, is believed to have started working as an instructor at the school in January 2013, the Vancouver Police Department said.

Roughly a year later, he allegedly began a sexual relationship, outside of the academy, with a student, who was between 16 and 18 years old at the time of the alleged offences.

The name and gender of the student have not been revealed for legal reasons.

Police say the Goh Ballet Academy is cooperating with the investigation and Gomez will remain in custody while further investigations are carried out.
