Going hiking in Metro Vancouver this weekend? There's still snow up there, warn officials

It may be a gorgeous, sunny weekend in Metro Vancouver, but officials are reminding hikers there's still plenty of snow on some backcountry trails in the popular Lynn Valley region.

On Friday Metro Vancouver Regional Parks said hiking trails to Crown Mountain, Hanes Valley, Lynn Lake and Coliseum Mountain remain closed because they're still covered in "metres of snow."

The park authority said staff were armed with ice axes and crampons to check up on caches at Goat Mountain, and that it would likely take at least three weeks before snow clears enough to open the trails.

Trails south of Norvan Falls are open, however.

The snowpack in the area is about 130 per cent of normal, according to the park authority.
