Golfers return to Calgary fairways

Calgary golfers are getting back into the swing of things despite the odd patch of melting snow.

Blue Devil Golf Club, Links of GlenEagles and Fox Hollow have peeled back the tarps for tee off.

A little snow in the sand traps wasn't enough to cause a delay, said Blake Clayton, who is the head pro at Blue Devil.

"We always want to be kind of the trend setter if we can be," he said. "But we would never open the golf course early if it affects the quality moving forward."

Golfer Tim Gibson was pleased to outside with his clubs.

"You know the last time we played for a lot of us was probably in October. So to be able to get out now and get going with the season in March and know that we're going to be playing up until October again — it makes us really happy."

More golf courses are set to open Saturday, including Silverwing Links and Heatherglen.

Although March is usually the opening month for golf in Calgary, the last couple years of mild winters saw golfers on the greens even earlier.
