Grayson McCall named preseason Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year

Grayson McCall continues to rack up awards.

The super senior was named Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and All-Sun Belt first team. The list was released Monday, July 24 at 1 p.m.

The result is expected after McCall’s performance last season.

McCall threw for 2,700 yards, 24 touchdowns and only two interceptions as the Chants finished the year 9-4. In his career at CCU, McCall has thrown 78 touchdowns with more than 8000 yards passing.

McCall has amassed many accolades during his time at Coastal. Aside from being a three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, McCall has made the All-Sun Belt First Team in the previous three years and is also a two-time preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

The CCU quarterback is the first player in Sun Belt Conference history to win Player of the Year three times.

He was not the only Chanticleer to be recognized by the conference.

Six Coastal Carolina players made the All-Team in total. Four Chants made the first team, tied for most in the conference.

Super Senior wide receiver Sam Pickney, Sophomore Jared Brown and linebacker JT Killen were All-Sun Belt first-team. Offensive Lineman Will McDonald and return specialist Matthew McDoom also made All-Sun Belt second team.

CCU has also been gaining attention from football outlets who also project good seasons from several Coastal players. Pro Football Focus named McCall and Pinckney to their preseason All-Sun Belt first-team list.

Defensive lineman Ja’Quon Griffin and Brown were named to the Pro Football Focus All-Sun Belt second team, while McDonald was named to the third team.
