Greg Cote Show podcast: ESPN’s Izzy Gutierrez on bold Heat prediction, ‘dehumanizing’ attack on LGBTQ

The newest episode of The Greg Cote Show podcast, out now, welcomes back friend-of-the show Israel Gutierrez, the ESPN NBA sideline reporter and all-round hoops expert.

Izzy joins us for the first time in a long time and sits in for the entire episode. We talk NBA playoffs and especially Heat-Bucks -- and what lay ahead for Miami in the coming offseason unless the team makes an unexpected deep postseason run from the No. 8 seed. Iz floats Miami as a tantalizing possible landing spot for Philadelphia superstar Joel Embiid. Listen in to find out the why and how of it.

We switch gears with our friend, who has been out as gay since 2015, to also discuss the increasing number of restrictive laws targeting an LGBTQ community that seems all but under siege. Our pod doesn’t get too serious too often but this will be worth your time as Gutierrez discusses the “dehumanizing” effect of what’s happening all around and notably in Florida under Gov. Ron DeSantis.

This is our 16th episode of 2023 and 162nd overall, and we welcome you back as always.

Also on the new episode:

Greg discovers a racehorse named Back In My Day, which leads him to recall the time he won a celebrity miniature-horse harness race at Pompano Park. Yeti had no idea what harness racing was. (Do you?)

Listen to what The Greg Cote Show might sound like if it was recreated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

A new edition of Dad Jokes of the Week (we’re 3-for-3), and Three Facts, Jack!

Chris joins us on the phone from Disney World in Orlando. (Well ... sort of.)

Did Yeti see Alec Baldwin standing in line at Hattie B’s in Nashville?

Hear all of this and much more in the newest GCS. Aside from the occasional bonus emergency episode, a new show drops every Monday morning at 7 on Apple Podcasts, Spotify -- wherever you pod, including of course at miamiherald.com.
