Halifax-area sidewalks coated in ice following rain and freeze

Many sidewalks in the Halifax-area are coated in ice Monday morning following Sunday’s rain and overnight freeze, making for a difficult commute for pedestrians.

The city says sand and salt will help with traction, but it will need to be spread “multiple” times in areas where water has pooled and then frozen.

Sidewalks in parts of the region are very slippery.

“Where I live, the sidewalks are just complete ice,” says Jennifer Bower, who pushes her son in a stroller and worries about slipping.

“Worst winter ever, so far.”

Lisa MacPherson, who hands out the Metro paper, says she had difficulty getting from her apartment to the bus stop this morning.

“I wish I had brought my skates,” she says.
