Harvey's surprises longtime customers with family reunion

A St. John's family was surprised by Harvey's Home Heating with a reunion with their children who live away.

The Doucette family have been customers for nearly 30 years. Harvey's surprised them by bringing their son and his family home from Winnipeg for a two-week vacation.

"We're still over the moon. I got such a shock when I went to the counter and saw my son," said Eileen Doucette. "It was the most lovely experience for us."

Harvey's general manager Chris Forward said staff had come up with the idea to bring a family together for the holidays.

When staff heard Eileen Doucette talk about her grandchildren growing up so far away and how she rarely gets to see them, they knew they had the right family.

"Their story touched our hearts," said Forward.

The company released a video Thursday highlighting special moments including the surprise reunion caught on hidden cameras.

Forward also announced that Harvey's Home Heating will donate $2,500 to the Boy's and Girl's Clubs of St. John's if the video gets more than 25 thousand views before the end of October.
