“Heartstopper” Season 3 Sets Fall Premiere as Things Get a 'Bit More Steamy' Between Nick and Charlie

Netflix gave eager fans a first look at season 3 of the beloved series, returning this fall

Nick and Charlie’s love story is only just beginning.

On Wednesday, Netflix announced that season 3 of Heartstopper will premiere in October, just over a year after the conclusion of season 2 saw the teens close to a major relationship milestone, as Charlie (Joe Locke) nearly said “I love you” to Nick (Kit Connor).

Along with the announcement, Netflix shared a behind-the-scenes look at the new season, which sees the cast filming at a fair. The stars also tease what’s to come for the beloved characters.

Kit, 20, teases that “it’s started to get a bit more steamy” between his character and Charlie. “We are about to have a great time,” the actor says after revealing that they’re in the midst of filming episode 8, the season's finale.

The scenes take place at a “summer fête” for their school, Truham and Higgs, and “the tension is high,” according to Kit. “It’s, like, sexual tension, love — we’re all there.”

The clip also shows Tao (William Gao), Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tori (Jenny Walser), who also tease what fans can expect from their beloved characters in the new installment.

“Tao is beginning to figure out what he loves to do and what his hobbies are,” Gao says of his character, who ended season 2 officially dating his best friend, Elle. “He’s finding a passion for something that he begins to really love and he does it to bring joy to people and to cheer up the other characters in the show.”

Finney, whose character will see distance challenge her relationship with Tao as she leaves Truham and Higgs to attend art school, says of how fans’ love for the show has emboldened the cast: “The positive reaction from season 2 has really, like, boosted all of our confidence. I can’t wait for you guys to see.”

As for Tori, Walser teases how “this season, we get to see a little bit more of Tori and how what Charlie has been going through has affected her. And she also makes a new friend.”

Season 3 will pick up with Charlie at the same crossroads at which he ended season 2, as he “would like to tell Nick that he loves him," while "Nick also has something important to say to Charlie," per the official synopsis.

“As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realize that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges," the synopsis continues. "As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn't go to plan."

Alice Oseman, who wrote the graphic novel series that the show is based on and created the show, said in a statement, “I cannot wait for the third season of Heartstopper to be released in October."

"Season two ended with Nick beginning to understand the extent of Charlie’s mental health issues, and it’s this that will drive the story through season three. While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up," her statement continued. "Mental health, sex, university ambitions and more: Nick, Charlie, and the Heartstopper teens are getting older, learning more about themselves and each other, and experiencing new desires, new fears, and new joys as they approach adulthood."
