A 15-year-old boy who was critically injured in a stabbing last week in Nepean has died, according to the local English public school board.

First responders were called to the 100 block of Constellation Drive on Thursday, where they found the teen suffering from life-threatening injuries.

He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, Ottawa police said that afternoon.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) had previously confirmed the teen was a student at nearby Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School.

In an update Sunday, the board shared "with great sorrow" the news that the student — whose name has not been released — had died of his injuries.

"We have reached out to the family to extend our deepest condolences.  They have expressed appreciation for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the school community," the board's statement said.

"At this time of loss, they have requested privacy."

18-year-old charged

Ottawa police said Friday they had charged an 18-year-old man in connection with the stabbing and have not shared his name or the charges he's be facing.

In its statement, the OCDSB said the man police arrested was not a student at Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School.

The OCDSB's tragic events response team — which provides assistance to students and staff — has been at the school since the stabbing, their statement said, and would remain there this week.

"We continue to co-operate with the police on their investigation, and we encourage everyone to refrain from engaging in speculation and rumors regarding the incident," the board said.
