Highway 28 has 2 serious crashes in 2 days

Highway 28 reopened late Friday night after a serious accident early Friday evening between Redwater and Gibbons in Alberta's Sturgeon County.

Two pickup trucks and an SUV collided between Township Road 570 and Township Road 564, about an hour and a half north of Edmonton, at around 6 p.m. MT.

A husband and wife were sent to hospital, while three other people were treated at the scene.

The woman is still in hospital in stable condition.

RCMP say the damage to the vehicles was extensive.

Police are now investigating the cause of the crash, but say weather and alcohol were not factors.

On Thursday, an 83-year-old man was airlifted to hospital following a serious crash, also on Highway 28.

Morinville RCMP said the man was driving a Hyundai Accent at around 11 a.m. MT, and was in the process of making an illegal U-turn near Range Road 234, and was hit by a semi truck.

Police said it was foggy at the time, and visibility was greatly reduced.
