Hillman, Andres named Athletes of the Year

Lia Hillman and Huxley Andres were named Ridgetown District High School Elementary School’s Athletes of the Year.

Hillary MacFarlane received the Student Contribution to Athletics’ award.

RDES also announced the most valuable, dedicated and improved athletes from this season’s Royals team.

Georgia Pollard was named the most valuable player, and Lily Gillam was the most dedicated player for the Royals’ girls’ soccer team.

Nicholas Brown was the MVP, and Kingston Boersma was the MDP for the boy’s team.

Leigha May was named the MDP of the Royals’ cross-country team.

Bianca Brown was named the Royals’ girls’ basketball team’s most valuable player, Olivia Drewery the most improved, and Kara Cornelius the most dedicated.

Jack VanderGriendt was the most valuable Royal on the boys’ basketball team, with Carter Calwell the most improved and Evan O’Rourke the most dedicated.

In volleyball, Logan Wrightman was the most valuable, Mackenzie Pennie was the most improved for the girls, and Jack VanderGriendt and Jagjodh Kular shared the MVP honours for the boys.

Jagjodh Kular was also named the most valuable player on the badminton team, while Viola Kerr was the most dedicated.

The individual champions and runners-up were honoured at the school’s track meet earlier this month.

Isabella Leroux was the Grade 7 girls’ champion, while Olivia Drewery and Joanna Sta Cruz tied for the runner-up spot.

Jack VanderGriendt was the Grade 7 boys champion, with Alex Crow the runner-up.

Lia Hillman was crowned the Grade 8 girls’ champion, and Georgia Pollard the runner-up.

The Grade 8 boys’ champion was Aric West, while the runner-up was Matthew Klassen.
