Hollyoaks shares the truth behind Romeo Nightingale's kidnap

Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Tuesday's (January 9) episode on Channel 4 streaming, which doesn't air on E4 until Wednesday.

Hollyoaks has revealed the truth behind Romeo Nightingale's kidnap after he was bungled into a van at the end of yesterday's (January 8) episode.

Last week Romeo was revealed to have accidentally killed his girlfriend Rayne Royce, after they had a poolside showdown.

Rayne was murdered in a special episode back in September which led to a four-month whodunit mystery, with Prince McQueen later confessing to police that it was his fault she died.

Last we saw of Romeo he was explaining himself to his housemates before heading to the police station to make his confession. He had tried to explain to Peri and Hunter that he loved Rayne and never meant to kill her and revealed that he was the one who wrote the letter saying Prince was innocent. Romeo also shared that he had confessed being the killer to one mystery person.

But as Romeo was about to go to police station to hand himself in, he was abducted and shoved into the back of the van, which then drove off.

Tonight (Janaury 9) it was revealed that it was Romeo's father James Nightingale who 'kidnapped' him. The episode began with a police manhunt for Romeo as James played dumb, pretending to the police that he feared for his son's life.

Meanwhile, after speaking to Zoe, Hunter was given the disappointing news that he must wait for a review of his brother Prince's case, despite the evidence that he's innocent.

Later it was revealed that James organised Romeo's kidnapping and has been keeping his son tied up in a barn in order to prevent him from going to the police.

A flashback of the pair then showed that the one person Romeo confessed Rayne's murder to was his dad James.

Back in the barn, James told his son that he must stay there alone until he thinks of a plan to prevent Romeo from going to jail.

However while it was clear that no one, not even Ste, knew about James hiding Romeo, their secret wasn't safe was long. The episode ended with Sienna coming across the barn where Romeo is hiding out while walking her dog. Will Sienna spill James and Romeo's dark secret?

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
