Home and Away star Sophie Dillman reacts to Ziggy's paternity storyline

From Digital Spy

Home and Away spoilers follow from Thursday's episode on Channel 5 (UK-pace).

Home and Away star Sophie Dillman has spoken to Digital Spy about the future of the Astoni family following the confirmation of who Ziggy's father is.

Thursday's episode on Channel 5 (June 4) saw Ziggy read the paternity test results, which confirmed that her biological dad is Ben (Rohan Nichol) rather than Marco (Tim Walter).

The Astonis had feared that Marco could be Ziggy's father, following the revelation that he slept with Maggie (Kestie Morassi) years ago.

Sadly, even with the matter now resolved, there's no easy way forward for Ben and Maggie to get their fractured marriage back on track.

Speaking to Digital Spy about what's ahead, Sophie – who plays Ziggy – explained: "Ziggy is relieved to know that her father is Ben. Regardless of whether he was paternally her father, she knew that Ben would always be considered as her dad. He would have always treated her as his daughter.

"But having that information is still very important. When Ziggy finds out Marco isn't her father, she's very happy and is hopeful that this can all go away.

"You'll see her trying to play peacemaker between Ben and Maggie. That seems to be her job in a lot of their fights anyway, but especially now!

"Ziggy is just so desperate to fix their relationship. She's only ever had a beautiful, loving relationship with her parents and she doesn't want to lose that."

Sophie went on to praise this big new storyline for the Astonis, which began when Marco first came to the Bay a few weeks ago.

She said: "It was really fun to film because every time you get a cameo family member, it always freshens things up and brings a new energy to everything.

"More importantly, Marco brought such a deep secret for the family with him. It was very intense to film at times, but everyone did the story justice and worked really hard on it. I think it turned out really well.

"For so long, the Astonis have had such a tight unit and nothing has broken them. But this obviously just shatters them.

"It was really hard to film. Kestie and Rohan are incredibly professional people, so they're very good at doing what they need to do, but we were all very tired at the end of it!

"We'd all go home at the end of a big day and be exhausted. But it was great. If you do a good job on these sort of stories, it's very rewarding."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
