“House of the Dragon”'s Ewan Mitchell says he shot nude scenes in 'fridge freezer' temperature

"It was a shock to the system, a shock to the naked body," Mitchell says.

House of the Dragon star Ewan Mitchell thought he had it bad wearing hot green leather all day long while filming season 2. That's why he was excited to shed all that leather to bare it all for his nude scenes in episodes 2 and 3 — but he had no idea just how bad the other end of the temperature spectrum could get.

Mitchell, who plays scheming, eyepatch-wearing Prince Aemond Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, reveals that both brothel scenes were shot in "fridge freezer" temps ... and you can imagine why that wasn't ideal for the actor.

"I had a nude scene in episode 2 and 3, so I thought I'd walk it and that'd be like the perfect temperature for those scenes," he said during Wednesday's episode of The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. "But during the shoot day, we went past our normal studio — we went to a different studio, Studio F, and it's like a fridge freezer."

He paused as the audience laughed. "Yeah, it was a shock to the system," he added. "A shock to the naked body. I hope you enjoyed it — and I hope my mother is okay with it. It was crazy."

The nude scenes in which Mitchell is referring take place in a brothel in King's Landing, where Aemond had managed to carve out a small moment of happiness with one of the women working there. But his older brother King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carnery), who bullied Aemond all their lives, discovered him in the brothel and humiliated him in front of a large group of people. Aemond tried to keep some of his dignity by walking out with his head held high, despite being fully nude, but it's clear Aegon shattered the peace of the one safe space in his life.

But Aemond got his revenge soon after in the Battle of Rook’s Rest, which featured the first major dragon-on-dragon battle. Aemond attacked Aegon under the guise of attacking Rhaenys (Eve Best) and her dragon Meleys. Aemond had Vhagar, his dragon, burn Aegon and his dragon, Sunfyre, and while Sunfyre tried to protect Aegon, both dragon and rider fell to the ground in a fiery explosion. The episode ended on a cliffhanger, leaving Aegon's fate up in the air as Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) caught Aemond in the act of trying to finish Aegon off.

"It was no secret that he felt like Aegon was inferior to himself," Mitchell previously told EW. "He felt like Aegon lacked the perseverance to be a leader. Also, it's no secret that Aegon was almost the ringleader to a lot of Aemond’s childhood torment and trauma."
