Inmate charged with possessing child porn in Manitoba jail

A 33-year-old inmate has been charged with possessing child pornography while he was in jail.

According to Brandon police, the man was found with photos of young girls with sexually explicit captions while he was in custody at the Brandon Correctional Centre.

The man had three photos clipped from a newspaper and one school photo proof he had written sexually explicit things on, Brandon police said.

When officers got a call from officials at the centre, they laid charges.

Under the criminal code, child pornography includes "any written material, visual representation or audio recording that advocates or counsels sexual activity with a person under the age of eighteen years."

The man was in the jail on child pornography-related charges when the incidents occurred.

Last year, the jail made headlines after an inmate escaped undetected. Staff at the centre didn't realize the inmate was missing until RCMP in Saskatchewan contacted them to say they had arrested him.
