Inside-the-park home run, come-from-behind win at City/County All-Star softball game
There was plenty of action to go around during the 41st City/County All-Star high school softball game.
Fans in attendance on Wednesday were treated to all that and then some.
The County All-Stars trailed 3-0 before rallying with two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game and added three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by Sierra Pacific’s Andrea Solis’ go-ahead, run-scoring triple in a 6-3 victory at Margie Wright Diamond at Fresno State.
Central’s Mia Nishikawa came in relief in the fifth inning and struck out seven to earn the win for the County.
The County has now won three straight games in the annual All-Star game.
But it seemed the City had control of the game when Naleya Bridges of Clovis North had a two-run, inside-the-park home run when the ball sailed to the fence in right field in the top of the third inning.
She rounded the bases and celebrated with teammates when she got to home plate.
The City couldn’t get any more runs when Nishikawa entered the game.
Solis’ triple gave the County a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning. Layla Torres of Sanger followed with a run-scoring double and Ashlyn Melgoza of Kerman capped the scoring with an RBI single to right field.
Solis and Bridges were named the most valuable players.
Awarded with the Most Inspirational Player awards were City’s Noemi Uribe of Edison and County’s Amara Klein of Central.
