The Interview opens in Regina, Saskatoon theatres

After all the hype, the threats, and the controversy, the movie The Interview screened in Saskatchewan today.

The comedy stars Seth Rogen and James Franco as journalists turned hired assassins recruited to take out North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un.

Late last year, the film was the target of a cyberattack and threats, which prompted Sony Pictures to postpone its release.

It was originally set to open in Canadian theatres on Christmas Day.

Earlier this week, it was announced the the film would make its Canadian cinematic debut Friday and would be shown at The Roxy in Saskatoon and Studio 7/Rainbow Cinemas in Regina.

Film-goers trickled in to see the matinee showing in Regina Friday.

"I was just curious with all the publicity and so on. I don't think it's going to be a terribly good movie. But I guess for the effect I'd like to see it," said one movie-goer.

Others were less drawn in by the controversy.

"I planned on seeing the movie before everything that went down. I love James Franco and I enjoy the films that he's in. So now that it's out I'm definitely here," said one fan.

Callen Diederichs, the assistant manager at the Roxy in Saskatoon, was proud his theatre was showing the film. He had no concerns about the threats made to theatres that showed the film.

"Between the fact that the hype has died down and the fact that we're in the middle of nowhere Saskatchewan, it actually hasn't crossed my mind to be worried.," said Diederichs.
