Items belonging to missing man Gavin Deloes found near Burnaby church, police say

New Westminster police say items belonging to missing man Gavin Deloes were found Wednesday evening.

Deloes, a 41-year-old Burnaby man, has been missing since Sunday morning, when he left Royal Columbian Hospital wearing only a hospital gown and flip-flops.

Family and friends are concerned for his safety.

In a statement Thursday, police said a member of the public found items belonging to Deloes Wednesday at around 8:30 p.m. PT.

The items were found in the green space behind the Salvation Army Cariboo Hill Temple, located near Highway 1 where Burnaby meets New Westminster, and included his slippers, socks, hospital gown, iPod and mouthwash, police said.

Police said the area was searched with a dog team until darkness and the terrain forced them to stop.

"We continue to ask the public to help us locate Mr. Deloes," Staff Sgt. Stuart Jette of the New Westminster Police Department said in a statement.

"If you see Mr. Deloes, please call 911 immediately."

Deloes is described as:

  • Slim.

  • Short black hair

  • May only be wearing boxer shorts.

Police said the search is continuing.
