ITV2 comedy series G'wed has been confirmed for two more seasons.

The Liverpool-set series, which follows a group of teenagers in the Merseyside city, debuted earlier this year on the channel.

The broadcaster has now announced that seasons two and three are on the way, with the second due to begin filming soon for a broadcast next year.

The new episodes will explore "the themes of consent, age gap relationships and the acceptable way to make money while still at school", with favourite characters Reece, Christopher, Connor, Ted, Mo, Aimee and Mia-Louise all back.

“It’s amazing and exciting that we get to do this again and I can't wait for series 2 and 3 next year,” said writer Danny Kenny.

ITV's head of comedy Nana Hughes added: “It is great to see that G’wed has resonated with our audiences across ITVX, ITV1 and ITV2!

"Danny Kenny’s writing had us crying with laughter one second, crying real tears the next and then back to laughter.

"And the hugely talented cast brought so much charm and cheek to the show, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Liverpool for a second and third series when G’wed returns in 2025.”

G'wed stars Dylan Thomas-Smith, Jake Kenny-Byrne, Max Ainsworth, Dominic Murphy, Zak Douglas, Amber Harrison and Gemma Barraclough, as well as Casualty's Sunetra Sarker and Doctors' Louis Emerick.

In other ITV news, the broadcaster has confirmed when hit detective series McDonald & Dodds will return for its fourth season, with the new episodes set to premiere later this month.

G'wed streams on ITVX and broadcasts on ITV2.
