Jennifer Hudson Calls for Ernie Hudson to Be 'Sexiest Man Alive' as He Flexes His Arms on Her Show

The 'Ghostbusters' actor, 78, recently went viral with fans praising his looks on a red carpet

Ernie Hudson is showing off his muscles for Jennifer Hudson and her audience.

As the Ghostbusters actor (who bears no relation to the singer and host) appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show May 24, they spoke about his recent viral moment. Fans praised his looks at age 78 when he stood out in a T-shirt during photo calls for the franchise's most recent film.

"I was doing a photoshoot for Ghostbusters and at 78 it's kind of nice to— I mean, it's the same arms, but suddenly people noticed I had arms," he said. "I'm very flattered."

"My granddaughter called me and she [was like] 'Grandpa, you're going viral! I'm like 'is that alright? Is that good?' " he joked after Jennifer, 42, asked whether he knew what "going viral" meant. "It's been a long time working. I've never really focused on the physical side of it, but like I said, it's nice to be noticed."

Ernie reunited with original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Annie Potts for Frozen Empire, which teams up the franchise's original crew with the series' newer stars like Paul Rudd. After the talk show host brought up 55-year-old Rudd's 2021 Sexiest Man Alive title, she suggested that Ernie himself campaign for the honor.

"Well after I saw that, I'm almost afraid to go anywhere without my T-shirt," Ernie added, as he partially removed his blazer, revealed his shirt underneath and flexed his arms for Hudson. "At my age, because you know — coming up, like I said, I never really focused on [physical appearance]. But at this stage in life, look at these!"

"Go for it! If this ain't the sexiest man alive in the universe I don't know what is," Hudson told her audience.

Hudson spoke with PEOPLE in March about the online reaction to his appearance on the Ghostbusters red carpet, saying, "It’s nice to be noticed. It’s been a little bit of a surprise in the last couple of days.”

At the time, Ernie, a two-time cancer survivor, said while he never worked out regularly until recently, he has "always been in what I consider fairly good shape."

“But normally, when I do those press conferences, I'm usually in a suit or a sport coat," he added. “I've always tried to be healthy. My career hasn't been about focusing on my physicality. The most important thing for me is just to try to maintain your health, just common-sense stuff.”
