Juewei meat and vegetable products recalled over listeria risk
A recall has been issued for dozens of Jue Wei Food Ltd. meat and vegetable products sold in British Columbia due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The recall list includes 46 different Juewei products including spicy duck neck, spciy quail eggs and spicy tofu skin.
"Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased," the CFIA said in its recall alert.
The agency is warning the public not to eat the products, adding that food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled but anyone who consumes it could become ill.
Symptoms from ingesting listeria include vomiting, nausea and fever.
"If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your health-care provider," it said.
Vulnerable groups like the elderly, pregnant woman and those with weakened immune systems are at increased risk, it said, adding that severe cases can lead to death.
CFIA says it is now conducting a food safety investigation and ensuring that all recalled products have been removed from grocery stores and markets.
