Julia Roberts is revealing some surprising details about one of her most iconic looks in Pretty Woman to British Vogue.

Roberts sat down for the magazine's "Life In Looks" video segment on Thursday and recalled how her character Vivian Ward's ensemble before meeting Richard Gere's character Edward Lewis came to be.

Vivian played a sex worker in the film, and often wore a blue and white dress that she sometimes covered up with a red jacket tied around her waist. But as Roberts recalled, the extra item was less a function of her character and more of her own insecurity at the time.

"I thought I had a big butt, and that's why I wore that jacket like that in the movie," Roberts, 56, admitted.

Roberts also recalled other details about the outfit, which is one of the most memorable ever on film. (Even her niece Emma Roberts has paid homage to it in a Halloween costume!)

"The funny thing about this dress is, I think it was about $20," she continued. "It was, I think, black and white and the costume designer changed it up to make it a little bit different."

The Erin Brockovich star also has a distinct memory about the footwear. "The boots were really uncomfortable," she said of the thigh-high black leather boots with the thin high heel.

There are some things about the outfit's accessories she couldn't explain, though.

"Why I have a plastic chicken foot as my accessory, I don't know," she said at one point of the character's layered necklaces.

Roberts has nothing but fond memories of working with the Pretty Woman costume designer, Marilyn Vance, who she said made the iconic red dress that Vivian wears after her transformation and also made the brown and white polka dot dress from the polo match scene.

"I remember her to be very caring about how I felt in the clothes, because I'm not really comfortable wearing such bare things and she was very mindful and respectful of that," Roberts recalled.

Vivian and Edward eventually fall in love in the Cinderella-esque tale of an escort hired to accompany a business man to social events, who rescues her and she rescues him right back.

But Roberts recently told CBS Mornings she doesn't think Vivian and Edward's love story had a fairytale ending, exactly.

"I think he passed away peacefully in his sleep from a heart attack, smiling," she told host Gayle King Edward's fate.

“And now she runs his business," Roberts added of Vivian.
