Juvenile suspect arrested in Sansom Park shooting of 42-year-old man, police say

An arrest has been made in the June 21 shooting that killed a 42-year-old man, Sansom Park police announced in a news release.

A juvenile was taken into custody Saturday with assistance from Saginaw police, the release states.

Authorities say there are no outstanding suspects in the case and the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident.

In a news release from Wednesday, police asked for the public’s help identifying two suspects in the homicide of Richard Applegate.

Police released two videos, each of which briefly shows someone in the frame. Police believed those two people to be connected to the homicide.

Applegate’s family members told KTVT-TV that he was shot after he confronted two young men who had threatened the family.

Police asked residents in the following areas to check their surveillance for images or footage of people walking or running around between 4:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Friday, June 21:

  • Skyline Drive

  • Crowley Street

  • Comanche Street

  • Cowden Street

  • Calloway Street

  • Joshua Court

  • Jalah Court

The video released appears to be from home security cameras, like a doorbell camera.

No further information is being released regarding the suspect due to their age, police say.
