Kamala Nehru — the wife of independent India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and mother of India’s first woman prime minister, Indira Gandhi — held her own ground and contributed in her own way towards the independence of India.

Breaking stereotypes, Kamala Nehru joined the Indian independence movement and rose as a prominent figure in the non-cooperation movement. Some believe that it was Kamala Nehru who influenced her husband to join the freedom movement.
