Kate Middleton sent her regards to the Irish Guards before the Trooping the Colour event.

In late May, Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales would not be attending the traditional rehearsal for the King’s Birthday Parade as she continues preventive chemotherapy treatments. Ahead of the Colonel’s Review, where she would have taken the salute in her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, she passed along her apologies in a personal letter.

“I wanted to write and let you know how proud I am of the entire regiment,” Middleton wrote in her letter, which the Irish Guards shared on X.com on June 8. “I appreciate everyone trooping this year has been practicing for months, and dedicating many hours to ensuring their uniforms and drill are immaculate.”

She continued, “Being your colonel remains a great honor and I am very sorry that I’m unable to take the salute at this year’s Colonel’s Review. Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however, I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon. Please send my very best wishes and good luck to all involved.”

Kate Middleton hand wrote the motto of the Irish Guards, “Quis Separabit,” before signing off as “Colonel Catherine.” You can see the letter here.

“The Irish Guards were deeply touched to receive a letter from our Colonel, Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales this morning,” the regiment wrote in captioned photos of the letter. “We continue to wish Her Royal Highness well in her recovery and send Her our very best wishes. Quis Separabit.”

This comes just a few days after Prince William shared an update about his wife’s health at the Portsmouth ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day. While speaking to a 100-year-old veteran, he said the Princess of Wales is “getting better” and "would have loved to be here today.”
