Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton's ups and downs over the years

Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton have gone from being BFFs to rivals to frenemies, and it appears they really are back to being friends again. Paris stars in Kanye West’s new Yeezy Season 6 ad campaign dressed up as — well — Kim Kardashian. Oh, how things have changed.

Surely, Kardashian got a kick out of having her former boss dress as her. If you had to organize Paris’s closets and get shaded on The Simple Life, wouldn’t you exact sweet revenge the same way years later?

Let us never forget the glory days when Kim was Paris’s employee. Although it’s been widely reported that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star was the heiress’s assistant, Kim has denied having that particular label.

“I would work with Paris, and I would love to organize and clean out their closets and get rid of all their stuff and sell it on eBay and then shop for them, shop for her. That was my job. I loved it,” Kim recalled to Andy Cohen in 2017. “But people will say ‘assistant.’ They always have it wrong.”

Regardless, Kim was fine taking a back seat at events and in paparazzi pictures while Paris soaked up the spotlight in the mid-2000s. However, the power dynamic eventually shifted between the two after Kim’s sex tape with Ray J. Months after The Simple Life was axed by E! in 2007, Keeping Up With the Kardashians premiered on the same network. And the heiress wasn’t exactly thrilled with Kim’s rise to fame.

The pair had a falling out in 2008 when Paris dissed Kim’s butt during a radio show interview. “I would not want [Kim’s butt] — it’s gross!” she exclaimed. “It reminds me of cottage cheese inside a big trash bag.”

Kim acknowledged that the comment created a rift in their friendship. “I haven’t talked to her in a few years,” she told Howard Stern in 2009. “We were good friends… It was just one time we didn’t speak again. I did speak to her once when she went on a radio station and said that my ass looks like cellulite in a trash bag or something. She did call me to apologize.”

Still, Kim was complimentary of Paris, adding, “I love her family. She’s a really smart girl… She showed me so much. I traveled the world with her. She showed me a lot. I’m thankful for everything I learned from her.”

But actions speak louder than words. The feud was alive and well in 2010 when the two girls got catty in Las Vegas. Kim was reportedly pissed that Paris was hanging out with her on-off flame, Reggie Bush.

The two continued to drift apart, and Kim said in 2011 that they “don’t really talk.” Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, she added, “As I always say, everyone comes into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. And she was in my life for a long time … there comes a point in life where you just grow apart and you realize you’re not as similar as you thought. And I never run into her anywhere. Isn’t that so weird?”

Oh, but the drama wasn’t over! Despite staying in their separate Hollywood corners, Paris continued to throw shade. In 2014, she tweeted a link to an article titled “Kim Kardashian Making It the Old-Fashioned Way; On Her Back.”

Hilton attempted to backtrack, saying the tweet was an accident.

However, tensions seemed to die down in 2015, when Paris complimented her frenemy: “We’ve known each other since we were little girls. We’ve always been friends,” Hilton exclaimed to Yahoo. “It’s nice to inspire people. I’m really proud of her and what she’s done.” She also said Kim and Kanye were so “cute” together, adding, “They’re the perfect couple. She’s always wanted to have a family, so I’m really happy for her.”

Kim seemed to accept the olive branch, posting a throwback photo of the two of them on social media.

Over the past couple of years, it’s been somewhat smooth sailing for the reunited pals. Hilton continued to send Kim well wishes in the media. “I love Kim,” Hilton said last year. “Basically, we’ve been friends since we were born. I’m so proud of her, and everything she’s achieved. Her family is beautiful, the little boy and girl, and I’m really happy for her.”

The two are so good, in fact, that earlier this month, Paris — who is engaged to Chris Zylka — said “of course” Kim will be invited to her wedding. Is it too much to hope that Kim will actually end up being a bridesmaid? Then we’ll really see just how good these two are now, judging by what kind of dress Paris would put Kim in.
