Lethbridge woman with baby arrested for drug trafficking

Chestermere man charged with child luring, child porn offences

A 24-year-old Lethbridge woman has been arrested after allegedly taking her newborn baby along on a drug deal.

The woman was taken into custody Tuesday night in Claresholm by members of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) engaged in an ongoing drugs investigation.

“Investigators witnessed the accused engaged in behaviour consistent with drug trafficking and made the decision to prematurely conclude the investigation in order to protect the welfare of the child,” police said in a written release.

About $9,000 worth of crack and powder cocaine was seized along with electronic scales and other drugs paraphernalia.

The baby boy, who is less than a month old, was put in the care of Southern Alberta Child and Family Services officials.

A 17-year-old was also arrested in the incident.

They were both charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
