Lewis County detectives investigating death of woman found Tuesday morning near Oakville

Detectives with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found Tuesday in the 900 block of Garrard Creek Road near Oakville.

A passing citizen reported an unresponsive woman near the roadway, and first responders arrived around 4:40 a.m., according to a news release from the sheriff’s office Tuesday. The woman was determined to be dead, and the scene was turned over to law enforcement.

The road was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the incident.

No other information is being released as the case remains active, the sheriff’s office said. When appropriate the Lewis County Coroner’s Office will release more information including cause and manner of death after a scheduled autopsy has been performed.
