Light pole falls over, damages 2 vehicles at St. John's Tax Centre

A light pole fell over in the parking lot of the St. John's Tax Centre on Monday, damaging two vehicles and closing the building for the remainder of the day.

A spokesperson with Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) said the two damaged cars belonged to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) employees, but no one was injured.

After the pole fell, CRA advised staff to remove their vehicles from the parking lot and leave early for the day.

The parking lot was closed to allow a structural engineer to inspect the other light poles in the parking lot, which are now being removed and replaced, according to Aaron Bower, senior communications adviser for PWGSC.
