Lightning strike damages north Toronto house

A spring storm brought lightning strikes that damaged a north Toronto house on Monday evening.

Natalie Sakin was taking out her garbage just after 9 p.m. when lightning struck her house near Highway 404 and Finch Avenue East.

"The whole ground shook," she told CBC News. "I was hit with this pressure ... it was like this wall of pressure, my ears blew and the garage fell off the hinges. It was just a huge bang."

The lightning strike broke several windows in her home. Three people were in the basement at the time; none were injured.

The stormy weather could return on Tuesday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Greater Toronto Area saying 20 to 50 milimetres of rain could fall Tuesday and into Wednesday.

Snow and ice pellets could come on Thursday or Friday.
