"Lizzie McGuire" Creator Says She Would Rather Show Move to Hulu than Stay on Disney+
Lizzie McGuire creator Terri Minsky revealed the reason why production has paused on the revival.
Hilary Duff previously hinted about the situation on her Instagram.
Disney+ confirms that they still plan to continue with the reboot.
A day after Lizzie McGuire star Hilary Duff seemed to reveal some issues with the show's highly anticipated revival on Disney+, series creator Terri Minsky is now setting the record straight.
In an interview with Variety, Terri Minsky, who ended up being fired from the project after production was halted, says that the show was considered too adult for the streaming giant.
"I am so proud of the two episodes we did," Minsky told Variety. "Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion."
The Hulu move option comes after the Love, Simon sequel series, Love, Victor, was revealed to be moving from Disney+ to the other Disney-owned service due to it not being family-friendly.
"Disney felt many issues explored on the show, including alcohol use and sexual exploration, would not fit in with the family-friendly content on Disney Plus," Variety reported.
Hilary Duff shared a photo of an article that showed Love, Victor's move with the caption, "sounds familiar", on her Instagram story, prompting fans to speculate whether the same thing happened to the Lizzie McGuire reboot.
Disney+ also confirmed to Variety that the Lizzie McGuire reboot is still moving forward with production.
"We paused production on Lizzie McGuire a few weeks ago to allow time for some creative re-development," they said. "Our goal is to resume production and to tell an authentic story that connects to the millions who are emotionally invested in the character, and a new generation of viewers too."
