London travel news LIVE: Travel chaos on M25 at Dartford Crossing as Queen Elizabeth II bridge shut by police

The Dartford Crossing was blocked creating long delays due to a police incident on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

All traffic was also forced to stop in the Dartford tunnel due to the incident but all lanes have since reopened.

Essex Police told the Standard they were responding to concerns for someone on the Dartford Crossing.

The Queen Elizabeth II Bridge was completely shut for 30 minutes on Wednesday afternoon.There were long tailbacks on the M25 on both sides of the River Thames following the incident.

Earlier on Wednesday some Tube trains were unable to stop on the London Underground at Victoria due to flooding on Wednesday morning.

Eastbound Circle and District Line trains were briefly unable to stop at the busy station.

Londoners are getting drenched on their journeys to work and school on Wednesday morning, as rain lashed the country.

The capital has narrowly escaped a yellow weather warning that is in place for the majority of England, Wales and Scotland on Wednesday and Thursday.

National Rail has warned heavy rain could cause flooding across the British rail network on Wednesday and Thursday.

Heavy rain could bring flooding and travel disruption across much of the UK on Wednesday and Thursday with an amber warning issued for part of the country.

The Met Office has issued the amber warning for parts of north Wales and north west England, including Liverpool and Manchester, for 24 hours from noon on Wednesday.

The warning for the region says flooding and disruption are likely, with rain becoming heavy and persistent.

A yellow warning for rain is in place for the north of England, the Midlands and north and mid Wales until 6am on Thursday, with the southern edges of the affected area extended to run roughly from around Norwich to Bath.

Two lanes remain shut on Queen Elizabeth II Bridge due to police incident

Two lanes remain closed and there are long delays on the M25 at Queen Elizabeth II Bridge due to a police incident.

The bridge was completely stopped for 30 minutes.

Police are with a van stopped just before the end of the bridge, in lanes three and four, according to travel data site Inrix.

An Essex Police spokesperson told the Standard they are currently responding to concerns for someone on the Dartford Crossing.

A statement added: “Traffic is being held while this incident is ongoing.

“We will work to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possibly.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding, we will update you as soon as we're able to.”

An ambulance has been called, but the service is unable to move until the passenger has been safely taken off the train.Southeastern routes between Slade Green Gravesend, Lee and London Cannon Street are affected.Thameslink services between Rainham and Bedford could also be hit by delays.

Disruption is expected until 10am.
