Mad Men star Jon Hamm has landed his next television role, with the actor set to feature in an adaptation of a podcast.

As reported by Deadline, Hamm will star in American Hostage, with the star set to reprise his role as Fred Heckman from the audio series of the same name.

The psychological thriller will tell the true story of Heckman, a “beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.”

The series has been created and written by Shawn Ryan (The Night Agent, The Shield), who is reportedly conceiving the project as an anthology series. Fellow Mad Men writer Eileen Myers is also penning the script, serving as a producer alongside Ryan and Hamm.

Hamm has appeared in several headline roles since his turn as Don Draper on Mad Men, with the actor making his debut on Apple TV+ series The Morning Show earlier this year.

His role as arrogant technocrat Paul Marks saw the team venture into space, with creator Mimi Leder recently explaining the design of the ship.

“Production designer] Nelson [Coates] and I looked at Space X, Blue Origin [and] a lot of the suborbital rockets that go up 62 miles,” said Leder.

“It's really hard to do space, especially on television. I had the good fortune of directing the movie Deep Impact, where I had a lot of experience in flying actors around on wires, and working in zero gravity.”
