Friends and family say Jimenez leaves behind a young son and will be missed by many.

"He grinded every single day to provide for his son and his family. That's who he was. He was a great father, a great person, a great friend and a great brother," said Cruz Scrivener, who said he's known Jimenez for 10 years and saw him like a younger brother.

Scrivener said his friend was always supporting others with a smile on his face.

"He was always there to back people up and be there for his friends and family. They don't really make people like that anymore," Scrivener said.

Emergency crews responded to 911 calls about gunshots on York Street at around 2 a.m.

Jimenez was pronounced dead in hospital, police said.

2nd-degree murder

On Thursday afternoon, police said 24-year-old Anas Mujber has been charged in connection with Jimenez's death.

The major crime unit is investigating.

Westbound York Street is closed to traffic from the ByWard Market Square to Sussex as part of the investigation.

Police were at the intersection of York and Cumberland streets looking at an SUV with broken windows Thursday morning.

In a noon update, police said they're looking at vehicles that may have been involved in the shooting.
