Car used as weapon on St. John's street, 3 taken to hospital

Man arrested for shoplifting at sex shop comes back again — and again — all in one day

Three people were hit by a car and taken to hospital and a 20-year-old driver is facing several criminal charges following an incident in St. John's Saturday night.

Police officers and firefighters responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident just before 9 p.m. on Bartlett Place, which is near the intersection of Topsail Road and Columbus Drive.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says when officers arrived at the scene, three pedestrians had been struck by the car and were taken to hospital.

Two were treated for serious non-life threatening injuries, while the third was treated for minor injuries and released.

The 20-year-old driver was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and assault with a weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in court Sunday.

Police say the investigation is continuing.
