Man critically injured when suspected drunk driver slams into stopped car

Calgary police say one man is in critical condition after a suspected drunk driver slammed into a car stopped at a red light on Wednesday night.

The incident took place at the intersection of Memorial Drive and 28th Street S.E. around 10:45 p.m., according to a news release.

A man driving a pickup truck was travelling west on Memorial when he rear-ended a car with four people inside.

A passenger in the back of the car, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The driver and the other two passengers in the car received minor injuries.

Police say the driver of the truck was uninjured and was arrested at the scene for impaired driving, although charges have not been laid.

The investigation continues, but police say excessive speed is not considered a factor.
